Boeing’s historic Starliner mission has launched its first crewed test flight into space.
Veteran NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams are part of the crew in the Starliner capsule on a mission to the International Space Station. The Starliner mission is Boeing’s effort to compete with the SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule for ferrying astronauts to the ISS.
The launch had been in the works for a decade and the first two launch attempts were scrubbed. This marks just the sixth inaugural launch of a crewed spacecraft in U.S. history.
