The Kansas Department of Labor has reported an unemployment rate of 3.2 percent for the state in July. This is an increase from the 3 percent rate in June and it’s higher than the July, 2023 rate of 2.6 percent.
Seasonally adjusted job estimates for Kansas indicate total nonfarm payroll employment decreased by 1,700 from June. That includes private sector and government employers. Private sector jobs increased by 3,900 over the month, while government decreased by 5,600.
Labor economist Emilie Doerksen said in a press release, “The private sector job growth was led by an increase in professional and business services jobs as well as a continued upward trend for trade, transportation, and utilities.”
Since July 2023 Kansas’ seasonally adjusted total nonfarm jobs have increased by 21,100. This change is due to an increase of 22,800 private sector jobs and a decrease of 1,700 government jobs.
