Today, we salute Kansas Navy Veteran Thomas Humburg. Thomas knew he wanted to enlist in the Navy while still in high school, so in 1968 he did. That was the deadliest year for America in Vietnam but Thomas was convinced that he could help his country and those on the front lines. When he opened his assignment letter, he was sure he was headed to Vietnam, instead he was headed to the USS Wasp. Aboard the USS Wasp, Thomas made multiple trips off the coasts of Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands, spending time looking for Russian submarines. He was discharged from active duty in December 1971. Three months later, he married his wife Carolyn and they have been married for 52 years. Proud of his service Thomas said he loves having a flag in his yard and it will be there until the day he dies. Thank you for sharing your story Thomas and THANK YOU for your service.
