A Hoisington man died and two others were hospitalized after the crash of a utility terrain vehicle in a Barton County field over the Labor Day weekend.
The Barton County Sheriff’s Office said the crash was reported around 6:45 Sunday evening in a field just outside the Hoisington city limits. Deputies found a UTV that had overturned, ejecting two of its three occupants.
The driver, 62-year-old Kevin Seyfert, was taken to a hospital in Hoisington and later transferred to a hospital in Wichita, where he died Monday. A passenger, a 37-year-old Hoisington man, was thrown from the vehicle and had serious injuries. Another passenger, a 71-year-old Hoisington man, was properly restrained but he also had serious injuries. Both men were later flown to a Wichita hospital.
The Sheriff’s Office said the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver attempted a sharp turn, causing the vehicle to go into a skid and then overturn. The crash is still under investigation.
