It’s back to work for dockworkers along the Gulf and East coasts after a strike that started earlier this week. Members of the International Longshoremen’s Association and management groups reached a tentative deal on wages Thursday after tens of thousands of union members working from Maine to Texas walked off the job Tuesday morning.

The strike had led to uncertainty about the movement of supplies as the nation heads into the holiday season.

Reacting to the news, President Biden issued a statement of thanks to “the union workers, the carriers, and the port operators for acting patriotically to reopen our ports and ensure the availability of critical supplies for Hurricane Helene recovery and rebuilding.”

The strike was suspended until January 15th to give negotiators time to work out an agreement that covers other issues, including automation.
