First organized in 1976 by a small group of “SantaCops,” the Christmas Crusade for Children is a program designed to enable the Wichita Police Department (WPD) personnel to bring the joy of Christmas morning to underprivileged children. Today, numerous WPD personnel continue the work of familiarizing themselves with individual family situations; specifically with the needs and holiday “wish lists” of the children.
The Purpose of the Christmas Crusade
Our purpose is to brighten the spirits of children who would not otherwise receive a gift on Christmas morning and to present police officers as positive figures in their lives.
It is true community policing at its best; delivering a message of heartfelt caring and concern for all children.
