Two people are dead after an early morning crash on the Kansas Turnpike south of Haysville.

The crash was reported around 4:30 a.m. on northbound I-35, near 87th Street South.   The Kansas Highway Patrol said two semi tractor-trailers were traveling together. One hit a deer and then hit the median.  The other semi stopped on the shoulder and it was hit from behind by a passenger car.  The two people in the car were killed and they were reported to be from Minnesota.  Their names have not been released.   The driver of the semi that hit the deer was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Traffic was blocked on northbound lanes of the Turnpike and it was being diverted at Exit 33 at Mulvane.   The Interstate was reopened to traffic by mid-morning.
