Demolition is to begin on a hotel building in Hutchinson.
The Atrium Hotel and Conference Center at 1400 North Lorraine was closed in 2019, and the Hutchinson City Council voted earlier to condemn the structure as unsafe and dangerous. The building was boarded up and had been vandalized in recent years, stripped of copper tubing and wiring, and mold was discovered in the building. City officials said the hotel no longer met safety and building standards.
The demolition is being handled by Kansas Concrete LLC and scheduled to be completed by the end of March, 2025. The City of Hutchinson is overseeing the demolition but it has no plans to take ownership of the property.
