The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is looking into an officer-involved shooting that happened Tuesday morning in Salina.

Police were called to a report of a domestic disturbance around 11:15 a.m. at a home in the 900 block of Birch Drive on Salina’s west side.   A man pointed an gun at officers and then locked himself inside a home with a three-year-old child.   He made threats to the child and to officers.

The KBI said the gunman refused to come out of the house and refused to let the child leave.  At around 1 p.m. a police officer fired shots striking the man and officers got into the home and rescued the child.   The 29-year-old man was taken to a hospital where he was in stable condition.  No law enforcement officers were injured during the standoff.

The KBI will investigate the incident and present its findings to the Saline County Attorney’s Office.
