UPDATE:  Reno County officials said 37-year-old Wendell Payton has been charged in connection with a fatal house fire in Hutchinson.  He appeared in court Thursday on two counts of first degree murder, aggravated arson, aggravated child endangerment, and several other charges.  His bond was set at $2 million.

Hutchinson police have made an arrest in connection with a fatal house fire.

A 37-year-old man was booked into jail for two counts of first degree murder, one count of aggravated arson, one count of aggravated endangering of a child, and two counts of felony interference with law enforcement.

The man and a child were taken to a hospital after a house fire Saturday, February 1st, in the 1000 block of East 3rd Avenue in Hutchinson.   They were treated and later released.

Crews found 32-year-old Kalsey Payton and a young girl in the basement, and they were pronounced dead at the scene.

Information has been turned over to the Reno County District Attorney’s Office.  Anyone with information on the fire is urged to contact Reno County Crime Stoppers or call the Hutchinson Police Department at 620-694-2816 and reference case number 2025-4633.
