Today, the AWESOME is in Silverton, Oregon. 16-year-old Violet Ammon was on a school trip recently when she noticed a woman at lunch choking. Without hesitation, she acted, running to the woman and rendering aid in the form of the Heimlich maneuver. Her quick thinking dislodged the object and literally saved the woman’s life. Violet thought nothing of it. She said, “I had taken a CPR and first aid class, I saw she needed help and I just acted.” The American Red Cross recognized her for her actions and presented her with a certificate and other tokens of appreciation. Seeing someone in need and helping, THAT’S AWESOME.
