Today, the AWESOME is in Cookeville, Tennessee. 47-year-old Amanda Juetten has many titles to her name. Mother of 5, new grandmother, and now a graduate from Tennessee Tech University. A big accomplishment for anyone, even more so for Amanda, because she did it all blind. Her path to education started over 3 decades ago, but she put her studies on hold for motherhood. Then, in 2020, she lost total vision due to retinitis pigmentosa. Not only did she graduate, she graduated with honors. Amanda is turning her passion for advocacy into action. She plans to earn a graduate certificate in blindness rehabilitation teaching and become a vocational rehabilitation vendor, offering training in braille, assistive technology, and independent living skills. She’s also co-founding a new Training Center for the Blind in Cookeville, Tennessee. Congratulations Amanda, YOU are AWESOME.
