Today, the AWESOME is in Denton, Texas. Chances are you’ve heard stories of mail carries and the scary run-ins they have with dogs that often end with the mail carrier being chased out of the yard. This is NOT that story. This is a story of Ian Burke who first met Floyd, a German Shepherd/Border Collie mix on his postal route. He not only got to know Floyd, but Floyd’s owner, a Vietnam Vetearn confined to a wheel chair. A year and a half ago, Burke’s delivery route changed and he lost contact with Floyd and his owner. Then, earlier this month, bad news arrived. Floyd’s owner had passed away and a dog matching Floyd’s description was now housed at the City of Denton animal shelter. Ian was first in line at the shelter’s front door when the ‘hold’ on Floyd expired—and moments later, the beloved black dog now had a forever home with his former mailman, and THAT’S AWESOME.
