Today, the AWESOME is in Pittsburgh. When Nathaniel Bunn witnessed a car flip onto its roof, he didn’t hesitate. With his son and father by his side, he jumped out of his car and rushed toward the wreckage. The driver was trapped inside, silent and unseen. Bunn and others tried desperately to pry open the door—one bystander even brought a tire iron—but nothing worked. There was no way the woman was getting out until the fire department arrived, so Nathaniel made a decision that had nothing to do with tools or rescue techniques; he held the woman’s hand until help arrived. He sat down, and the driver squeezed his hand for comfort. What troubled him most was how many others stood by filming the scene instead of helping. Nathaniel said he was glad that he was there to help her, and he hoped she was comforted by his actions. I’m sure she was Nathaniel, and THAT’S AWESOME.
