Today, I salute Army Veteran Jim Baird. Jim loved his 1966 Corvette Stingray. A gorgeous car in showroom condition. He loved it so much, he gave it away. Jim was inspired by the country music song, “Riding with Private Malone,” by David Ball. The song brought back memories for Jim of his buddy, Steve Bovio, who was killed in Vietnam. Jim reached out to David Ball about holding a giveaway contest, and he did. Jim selected Curt Baumann, a United States Air Force veteran who also worked as a patient advocate at the Department of Veterans Affairs. One of the people who nominated him wrote, “Curt Baumann gives much more than his time – individuals as truly selfless and dedicated to serving others as Curt are few and far between. I cannot recommend a better candidate.” The car was delivered last week, and David Ball signed the glove box. Congratulations, Curt. Thank you, Jim, for your generosity. Thank you both for your service, and thank you to Steve Bovio, who inspired this gift. THANK YOU for your sacrifice.
