Today, the AWESOME is in Sycamore, Illinois. Most kids set up lemonade stands in their neighborhoods, but 9-year-old Ethan Wargo is not most kids, and he set up something different. He set up a table where the only thing being served is kindness. On a late, hot summer day, Ethan spends hours at his little stand, offering free compliments to anyone who stops by. Whether it’s a kind word about a person’s shoes or encouragement for their day, Ethan makes it personal. Ethan said, “I want to give out something good that will make them have a big smile on their face.” Ethan says he got the idea from a graphic novel where the character set up an ‘insult stand,’ and Ethan simply turned the idea around. Unlike a lemonade stand that charges a fee, Ethan’s compliments are free. He says it makes people feel good and that makes him feel good, and THAT’S AWESOME.
