Today, the AWESOME is in Peachtree City, Georgia. Kristi Maxwell found herself in a terrifying ordeal, and that’s when a brave teenager stepped in using an unexpected tool to save the day. Maxwell had taken her dog, Maddie, out for a walk when two German shepherds suddenly approached. At first, she assumed the dogs were just curious. But when their circling turned aggressive, she realized she and Maddie were in serious danger. 17-year-old Saylor Ziegler, a cheerleader at McIntosh High School, was on her way to take an AP Psychology test when she saw the dogs circling Maxwell. She said instinct took over. She reached into her trunk and pulled out the first thing she saw — a solid makeup mirror — and used it as her weapon to drive the dogs away. Maxwell spent the night in the hospital with injuries to her arms and head. She required stitches. Through tears, Maxwell credited her young neighbor with saving not just her dog — but her life, and THAT’S AWESOME.
