Today, the AWESOME is in Oklahoma City. The Academy of Classical Christian Studies girls basketball team had just celebrated what they thought was a thrilling victory. Their buzzer-beater in last season’s division championship game against Apache High School seemed to seal a 44–43 win and their place in the record books. But that same night, head coach Brendan King went home and rewatched the game footage — and something didn’t feel right. King painstakingly reviewed each basket, and his worst fear was confirmed: the scoreboard had been off. The actual score was 43–42, meaning Apache High had been the true winner. King told the team and their reaction filled him with pride. Together, the team made an extraordinary decision: they asked that their championship be revoked and awarded to Apache High School. The league agreed, and Coach King personally delivered the championship plaque to Apache. Apache’s coach, Amy Merriweather, said the gesture of honesty and sportsmanship is something they’ll always remember.

and THAT’S AWESOME.
