Today, I salute 88-year-old Army Veteran Ed Bambas. Ed’s story is sadly all too familiar, but it has a happy ending. In 1999, Ed retired from General Motors, which went bankrupt in 2012, and with it, they took his pension and healthcare coverage. Coverage and money his sick wife needed. With bills piling up, he sold their home and property and took all but $10,000 of his life insurance. He had planned to grow old with her, but she died 7 years ago. Now, at 88, he works a 40-hour-a-week job, just to afford to live. Australian influencer Samuel Weidenhofer just shared Ed’s story online along with a GoFundMe page, and the internet did its thing. At the time of this story, Ed will never have to work again, because he is now over $1.2M richer. Thank you to Samuel and all the strangers who helped, and THANK YOU, Ed, for your service.
