Today, I salute artist and Vietnam Veteran Jim Stevens. Jim brought back so much from Vietnam, including bullet fragments that remain inside his body from when he was shot in the head. That led to lifelong migraines. Then, in 1993, the injury led to a stroke that made Jim legally blind. He has what he calls “pinhole vision,” viewing the world almost frame-by-frame. Limited sight has taught him patience; it was his art that has taught him more. After the stroke, Jim admits he didn’t do much, then his daughters encouraged him to jump-start his art again. At first, he admits it was frustrating, but his daughters relentlessly kept reminding him that he promised he wouldn’t quit, and he didn’t. Now his artwork hangs in galleries. Congratulations, Jim, and THANK YOU for your service.
