Today, I salute Army combat Veteran Trent Williams. Trent thrived in the military until he was injured. He became addicted to painkillers, and life spiraled after that. After his service, he was homeless for a while, living out of his car, and he still remembers the exact moment things changed. Homeless, living in his car outside the Oklahoma City VA hospital, Williams held a photo of his young daughter, Ellsy, in one hand. In the other, he gripped a pistol. He felt he had two choices; he made the right one and put the pistol down. Trent is now a first responder and weight lifter and has gone on to set several world records. Trent talks about his mental health, saying, “It’s the hardest battle you’ll ever fight, that battle in your head. I know what it’s like to suffer. I want to be that support system for people. Never give up. Keep moving forward. Find a purpose. Pursue that purpose. This life is worth living. I’m proof.” Thank you for helping others, Trent, and THANK YOU for your service.
