James Van Der Beek, best known for his role as Dawson Leery on “Dawson’s Creek,” died yesterday at age 48 after a battle with colon cancer. The WB show—set in the fictional town of Capeside, Massachusetts—was an instant success. The first episode drew 6.8 million viewers, the highest ratings in the network’s history. He also starred in “Varsity Blues” and will appear posthumously on Amazon Prime’s prequel to “Legally Blonde,” which will debut in July.
