Today, I salute Army Veteran Dawn Jeans. Dawn knows firsthand what it’s like to hit rock bottom. After surviving addiction, homelessness, and domestic abuse, she rebuilt her life through faith, determination, and long-term sobriety. Along the way, a small husky puppy named Joker entered her life — an unexpected companion who would become central to her healing. When her family was homeless, she lived in a tent, her son and daughter-in-law were living out of their car, working long hours delivering food and taking on odd jobs to get by. During the day, Jeans took responsibility for caring for Joker, and the tiny husky-mix puppy quickly became a source of joy and stability. Dawn said caring for Joker helped with her recovery, her sobriety, and her improved health. Joker’s unconditional love was exactly what she needed during that stage of her recovery.
