Today, I salute Army Veteran Matt Sims. Matt enlisted in the U.S. Army at 17, becoming a combat medic. During his 2005-2006 Iraq deployment, he was wounded three times: a sniper’s bullet fractured his skull, neck, and leg; a roadside bomb caused shrapnel injuries, and a collapsed lung; and mortar shrapnel wounded his leg while treating a fellow soldier. After earning three Purple Hearts, he continued serving until 2019, including a White House posting. Now, he assists Veterans at Reynolds Army Health Clinic and authored “Why My Heart Is Purple,” honoring 219 fallen military medical personnel. Thank you for continuing to help other Veterans, Matt, and THANK YOU for your service.
