Today, I salute Navy Veteran and veteran actor James Tolkan. Born in 1931, Tolkan briefly served in the Korean War before being medically discharged. He later studied theater on the G.I. Bill and built a long career in New York stage and film, earning over 80 screen credits. He was best known as the cigar-chewing commanding officer in Top Gun and for his role in the Back to the Future series. A few days ago, Tolkan, survived by his wife of 54 years and three nieces, died at the age of 94. Thank you for sharing your talents on stage and screen, James, and THANK YOU for your service.
