It’s not at all uncommon for actors to play way outside their age range. Here’s a list of actors who played characters that are either younger or older than their actual age:
1. Angelina Jolie: She was 29 when she played Colin Farrell’s mother in “Alexander”. They’re less than a year apart in real life.
2. Jennifer Lawrence: She was 21 when she played a widow in “Silver Linings Playbook”. Her character was supposed to be in her mid-to-late thirties.
3. Andrew Garfield: He was 27 while playing 17-year-old Peter Parker in “The Amazing Spider-Man”. He was 30 for the sequel.
4. Amy Poehler: She was 33 when she played Regina George’s mom in “Mean Girls”.
5. Keira Knightley: She was 18 when she played a newlywed in “Love Actually”.
6. Maggie Smith: She was 56 when she played 92-year-old Wendy Darling in “Hook”.
7. Alan Rickman: He was 54 when he played 32-year-old Snape in the first “Harry Potter” film. He was 64 in the final film, when Snape would’ve been 38.
8. Olivia Newton-John: She was 29 when she played teenage Sandy in “Grease”.
9. Brad Pitt: He was 39 when he played Achilles in “Troy”. Achilles’ age during the Trojan War is believed to be anywhere between 12 and his twenties.
10. Meryl Streep: She was 58 when she filmed “Mamma Mia!”, but her character is believed to be around 43.
