Today, the AWESOME comes from Long Island, NY. Former News 12 Long Island reporter Amy McGorry has found a life-saving liver donor after a viewer saw coverage of her medical struggle and volunteered to help. McGorry, 56, suffers from two rare liver diseases — autoimmune hepatitis and primary biliary cholangitis — and urgently needed an O-positive donor after dangerous internal bleeding and hospitalization earlier this year. She learned the emotional news while teaching at Long Island University, where her students applauded. The anonymous donor completed testing and is scheduled to undergo transplant surgery with McGorry in June. McGorry also continues advocating for stronger protections for living organ donors, and THAT’S AWESOME.
