Star Spangled Salute: 96-Year Old WWII Veteran Brings Back The Mohawk

Today’s Star Spangle Salute honors 96-year old World War II Veteran Guy Whidden.  The former paratrooper, first cut his hair into a mohawk back in 1944 right before D-Day.  The reason was simple, it was to wear the hairstyle to intimidate the Germans.  However, regulations stepped in and Guy was told by a superior that it had to go.  So the morning before he jumped, he shaved it and he jumped bald.  Guy regrets doing it but he followed orders. Now, with so many people stuck inside and others battling on the front lines of the pandemic, Guy cut his hair into the mohawk once again as both a tribute to his fallen friends and a way to spread some joy and encouragement. Thank you Guy for your service and thank you for being a light.
