Sedgwick County Local Health Officer Makes COVID-19 Recommendations Amid Rising Cases

After consulting with local physicians and weighing information heard from the County Commission on Tuesday, August 3rd, Sedgwick County Local Health Officer Dr. Garold Minns issued COVID-19 recommendations amid rising case numbers.

Minns strongly recommends vaccinations for any eligible individuals, including those aged 12 and older, as soon as possible.

He also advised residents to follow CDC recommendations regarding mask wearing or facial coverings in indoor public spaces. This includes individuals who are not fully vaccinated and aged 2 or older. He added that this should especially be adhered to in areas of substantial high transmission (including Sedgwick County), as well as in crowded outdoor settings or other areas wherein close contact with others who are not fully vaccinated is unavoidable.

Lastly, Minns said that continual mask wearing for residents who are not fully vaccinated is strongly recommended in order to maximize individual protection from the emerging Delta variant as well as avoiding the possibility of spreading it to others.

Minns stressed once again that vaccination is still the most effective tool to stop the spread of the virus.
