The body of a man in his early 40’s was discovered on Tuesday, September 21st near the intersection of Halstead Road and McReynolds Road in Saline County has been ruled a homicide.
The Salina Police Department confirmed that a homicide investigation is underway, adding that a charge of second-degree murder is being requested against a 41 year old male suspect.
Police revealed they had received a report on September 17th that a vehicle borrowed by the suspect contained what appeared to be a significant amount blood as well as a spent shell casing.
A search warrant was obtained for the vehicle and a home, and a subsequent search uncovered evidence indicating a violent crime had occurred. Police arrested the suspect on September 17th for Criminal Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Battery of a Law Enforcement Officer and Felony Damage to Property.
Authorities said that investigators from the Salina PD, Salina County Sheriff’s Office, and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation had been conducting a joint effort to locate and identify the potential victim since September 17th. It was on Tuesday the 21st that investigators learned a victim may be located in the 3100 block of West McReynolds Road in Saline County.
Law enforcement is waiting on confirmation of the identity of the victim and the investigation is ongoing.
