Lake Afton Hunter’s Ed class cancelled

The Hunter’s Education course that had been scheduled at Lake Afton this weekend is now cancelled. Most in-person courses across the state appear to have been cancelled as well.

There are internet-assisted courses in some areas, but most appear to have filled up. In most cases though, this should not keep people from being able to hunt.

Hunters under 16 do not need a Hunter’s Ed certificate, but will have to be hunting under the direct supervision of an adult. For hunters 16 and older, you are able to buy an apprentice hunting license, which defers the Hunter’s Ed requirement. You can get these annual licenses for two years before you need to get a Hunter’s Ed certificate. Hunters using an apprentice license will have to hunt with an adult.

There is also an entirely online state-approved course offered by the NRA. It’s free and open to anyone 16 or older. A link to this course and general information can be found below.
