An extreme grassland fire danger will exist across south central Kansas for Wednesday afternoon and evening.
Gusty south winds and dry conditions will raise the risk for grass fires to spread and become difficult to control. The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for the Wichita area and south central Kansas.
Outdoor burning is not recommended and people are urged to be careful with cigarettes and smoking materials.
Wichita firefighters were called to a grass fire Tuesday afternoon near Kellogg and Seneca, with smoke limiting visibility on Kellogg for a short time. Another grass fire was reported at Tyler Road and Bekemeyer on the city’s west side.
