Missouri confirms its first case of coronavirus

By the Associated Press:

Missouri officials say a St. Louis-area woman who recently traveled to Italy is the state’s first confirmed coronavirus case.

St. Louis County Executive Sam Page said the woman is in her 20s and is at home with her parents. He said she was returning home from Italy when she showed coronavirus symptoms. She was tested at Mercy Hospital St. Louis, and officials said it made sure that she was kept away from other patients.

Two Catholic schools in suburban St. Louis have temporarily closed and some students at a third school have been told to stay home after the woman’s father attended a school dance with another child.

Amtrak also is cleaning a train the woman took took to Missouri from Chicago.   Page said at a news conference Sunday that the patient’s family was told on Thursday to self quarantine at their home in Ladue but didn’t follow health department instructions.

Train stations in Chicago and St. Louis also are being cleaned.
