Marion County Sheriff dies of COVID-19 complications

Marion County Sheriff Robert Craft died Wednesday evening from complications related to COVID-19.  He had served as sheriff since 2008.

A message on social media from Undersheriff Larry Starkey said funeral services are pending, and he said the sheriff’s office appreciates “all the prayers and positive thoughts.”  A post on the Marion County Emergency Communications Facebook page said “Rest easy, sir, we have the watch from here.”

Kansas Highway Patrol troopers worked with Marion County deputies Wednesday night in bringing the sheriff’s body back to Marion from Topeka.    Community members gathered along Main Street in Marion to pay their respects as the motorcade went through the downtown area.
