Sedgwick County has reached the 1,000 mark for deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic. An additional death was reported this week, although the number of new cases continues to decline.
The Health Department reported 38 new cases on Thursday, and the positive testing rate has dropped to 3.7 percent.
Wichita hospitals remain in a cautious status, but their numbers have been declining. Wesley Medical Center and Ascension Via Christi reported 90 patients this week with 27 in intensive care.
Starting next week, the county will only update COVID-19 case numbers on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, a practice that is already being followed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for state numbers.
