Volunteers will be gathering in south Wichita for the second annual Brush Up Broadway event on Saturday, May 21st.

Teams will be working to pick up trash, pull weeds and paint over graffiti along South Broadway from Kellogg to Pawnee.  The event begins at 8 a.m. and runs through 2 p.m.

Volunteers are asked to gather at four locations:

— The Cozine Memorial Group at 1147 South Broadway

— Immanuel Baptist Church at 1415 South Topeka

— 1823 South Broadway

— 2208 South Broadway

After the clean up activities, an art gathering will be held at Lincoln Park, featuring works by local artists.   Local businesses can get information on how to add murals to their buildings.

Wichita police officer Anthony Villegas is one of the organizers of the event and he said it was created to revitalize the area and add to the efforts of Patrol South and the Community Response Team in the Broadway Corridor.

The City of Wichita and Wichita Independent Neighborhoods are also hosting the event.
