Wichita police arrested a Texas murder suspect Saturday evening after a chase on the city’s west side.
The chase began around 7 p.m. on Maize Road and ended at 13th and Tyler Road. Several cars were hit in that area and a patrol car was also hit, but no one was injured.
The suspect got out of his car and ran into a Dillon’s store at 13th and Tyler. He was caught inside the store and was taken to a hospital to be treated for an overdose of drugs he had taken while he was in the store.
Police began chasing the suspect after his vehicle was identified through a license plate reading system. They had been notified by police in Robinson, Texas of a suspect in a homicide case who was believed to be in the Wichita area.
The suspect, 27-year-old Derek Joseph Daigneault, is being held in the Sedgwick County jail on a number of charges related to the chase. The charges include aggravated battery and aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, along with fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer.
