Wichita police arrested a Texas murder suspect Saturday evening after a chase on the city’s west side.

The chase began around 7 p.m. on Maize Road and ended at 13th and Tyler Road.  Several cars were hit in that area and a patrol car was also hit, but no one was injured.

The suspect got out of his car and ran into a Dillon’s store at 13th and Tyler.   He was caught inside the store and was taken to a hospital to be treated for an overdose of drugs he had taken while he was in the store.

Police began chasing the suspect after his vehicle was identified through a license plate reading system.   They had been notified by police in Robinson, Texas of a suspect in a homicide case who was believed to be in the Wichita area.

The suspect, 27-year-old Derek Joseph Daigneault, is being held in the Sedgwick County jail on a number of charges related to the chase.  The charges include aggravated battery and aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, along with fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer.
