Two people were taken into custody Saturday after a standoff that lasted almost four hours at an Arkansas City home.

Police were called to a home in the 1300 block of North A Street around 11:30 a.m. on a report of a woman threatening people with a gun.   They encountered a 44-year-old Winfield woman, who pointed a handgun at the officers and then brought out a machete and a hammer.   Other law enforcement agencies were called to the scene and they were in a standoff with the woman and a passenger inside a truck parked in the driveway.

An armored vehicle from the Kansas Highway Patrol moved in around 3:45 p.m. and the two people surrendered a short time later.  The two are facing charges for the standoff and for another incident that happened earlier in Cowley County.
