A Wichita man has been sentenced to over ten years in prison for a crash that injured a motorcycle rider.  The crash happened during a chase in 2021.

A Sedgwick County judge sentenced 40-year-old Ricardo Trevizo to 122 months in prison.  He pleaded guilty in April to aggravated battery while driving under the influence.

Prosecutors said Trevizo was trying to get away from law enforcement officers who tried to pull his SUV over in Kingman County on October 9th, 2021.   Speeds during the chase reached over 100 miles an hour on Highway 54.   Humberto Estrada was on a motorcycle waiting for a green light at Highway 54 and 119th Street East.  He had stopped in the eastbound lanes of Highway 54 when he was hit from behind by Trevizo’s vehicle.   Doctors at Ascension Via Christi had to amputate Estrada’s left leg below the knee because of the injuries he suffered.

At the time of the chase, Trevizo was driving with a suspended license and driving while intoxicated.  He had two prior DUIs on his record.  The judge also ordered him to pay $15,961 in restitution to help cover Estrada’s unpaid expenses.
