A fire was reported early Saturday at the energy plant at Wichita’s Century II Performing Arts and Convention Center.
City officials said the fire caused catastrophic damage to a transformer that provides heating and cooling to the round portion of the building, and the systems that power the HVAC function lost power.
The city, the management firm of ASM Global and Evergy are working to restore the system and it’s expected to take a few days to get a new transformer and install it. Some wiring in the system will also have to be redone.
At this time, no events have been cancelled. With the mild weather, Century II staff expect that any impact to the guest experience at the facility to be minimal.
