Today, I salute Navy Veteran Janae Sergio. Sergio’s journey began at 16 when she was left at a Hollywood shelter by her mother after years of abuse. Facing homelessness and instability, she sought independence but struggled to break free legally. At 18, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy, gaining stability and serving for 8 years, including a deployment supporting Operation Enduring Freedom aboard the USS John C. Stennis. A survivor of military sexual trauma, Sergio later wrote a memoir reflecting on her past and commitment to ending cycles of abuse. Now a mother and Veterans’ advocate, she mentors others, serves as a VFW leader, and works to ensure no Veteran feels alone. Thank you for advocating for other Veterans Janae and THANK YOU for your service.
