Today, I salute Retired U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Clyde “Cash” Barber. Barber celebrated his 102nd birthday on May 5th at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola. A veteran of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, Barber enlisted at 17 and served as a flight engineer on PBY-5 Catalina aircraft in the Pacific. After retiring in 1971, he continued sharing his experiences as a longtime museum volunteer, greeting visitors weekly for over a decade. Surrounded by family, friends, and admirers, Barber reflected on his “blessed journey.” Museum leaders praised his dedication, noting that his personal stories inspire visitors and bring history to life beyond the aircraft on display. Thank you for keeping history alive, Clyde, and THANK YOU for your service.
