1. 7 times, that’s the combined number of times a husband and wife were shot over the weekend while putting themselves between their kids and a gunman during a mass shooting at a splash pad in Michigan. They were 2 of 9 victims wounded in the senseless and violent act.
2. Researchers at Michigan State University say honey bees can detect lung cancer with incredible accuracy. The bees were presented with mixtures that replicated the human breath of someone who was healthy and someone with lung cancer. Researchers say the honey bees could distinguish between the different types of breath and detect small concentrations of cancer, 82 percent of the time.
3. The new Walmart shopping cart is causing a large amount of controversy because of its size. The handlebars are now about 3.5 inches higher than before, but the even bigger problem for short people with children is that the child seat is almost 8 inches taller than in the old carts – meaning they cannot see where they are going. As you can imagine short people are not short on their hate for these new carts. On the upside they have a cup holder and a place to put your phone. Either way, its a bigger cart to not get returned to the cart coral.
4. Pickleball is so 2019 – sell hello to Pepper Pong. It’s a game gaining popularity fast that is a space saving alternative to ping pong because you can play on any surface. Creator Tom Filippini came up with the idea during his battle with addiction fight loneliness. It sells at $70 set, complete with paddles, a plastic net and foam balls. So far, he’s sold over 10-thousand sets.
5. A Great Dane in Iowa named Kevin after the character in “Home Alone” has been crowned the world’s tallest dog, standing 3 foot 2 inches tall from ground to top of the withers. Funny, I always thought Tiger Woods was the world’s tallest dog.
