Wichita Man Arrested in Connection to an Unsolved 1979 Murder Case

A Wichita man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to a 42-year-old cold case in Colorado.

On Tuesday, Wichita police arrested 64-year-old James Herman Dye after the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, in Greeley, Colorado, obtained DNA evidence linking him to the 1979 murder of Evelyn Kay Day.

Authorities initially considered Day’s husband the primary suspect, but they were unable to make connect the murder to him.

Dye has a considerably length arrest record, including an arrest on October 5th, 1977. Detectives found similarities in that case to Day’s 1979 murder.

Dye is currently being held in the Sedgwick County jail where he awaits extradition back to Colorado.
