The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued a stream advisory for Polecat Creek and the confluence of Clear Creek, south of Garden Plain.
Health officials are concerned about elevated levels of bacteria and contamination in the creeks, because of a power outage at Garden Plain’s wastewater treatment plant. The outage was caused by severe thunderstorms that moved through the area. Crews are working to make repairs.
Health officials say people who live near Polecat Creek and the confluence of Clear Creek should not go into the creeks, and they should prevent children and pets from going into the creek.
